How we use AI
A model turns the document you give Flora into cards. That is the whole of its job, and here is what that means for it.
What the model does
One job: it reads the text of the page you pointed us at and writes the cards from it. That’s the part of spaced repetition that stops people - writing good cards is slow, skilled work, and most people give up somewhere in the first fifty - so it’s the part worth handing to a machine.
What it doesn’t do
It doesn’t decide when you see a card. The schedule is a fixed formula, not something the model chooses: how soon a card comes back depends on how well you’ve known it, so a card you keep getting right moves further out each time, and a card you keep forgetting stays close.
It doesn’t mark your answers. You say how the recall went and Flora believes you.
It doesn’t write to you, coach you, or generate anything you didn’t ask for. There is no chat in Flora and we don’t intend to add one.
Which model
Claude Haiku 4.5, reached through OpenRouter. This changes as models get better and cheaper, so treat the name as current rather than permanent; the shape of what’s sent doesn’t change with it.
What gets sent
The text of the document you added, and the instructions for turning it into cards. Your email address, your review history and everything else about your account stay here.
What’s kept, and for how long
The exchange is recorded: the text we sent, and the cards that came back. It’s kept for 30 days and then it goes.
This is a deliberate trade and it’s worth being straight about which way it cuts. A generated card that’s wrong, or dull, or asks about the wrong half of a page, is nearly impossible to explain once the exchange is gone — you’re left guessing at which model answered and what it was actually asked. Keeping it is how a bad card becomes a fixable bug rather than a shrug. The cost is that your document sits somewhere else for a month, and that’s a real cost rather than a technicality. Privacy says where.
What isn’t done with it
Your documents aren’t used to train models, by us or by anyone we send them to. They aren’t sold, and they aren’t used to build anything except your own cards.
The cards are yours to overrule
Generated cards are ordinary cards. Edit them, rewrite them, delete the ones that ask the wrong question. A model that has read one article knows what’s in the article; you know what you’re trying to learn, and where those two disagree you’re right.
